From the hotel on 1,350 m to the Strimsalm 1,550 m and further to the Strimskogel ca. 2,200 m – over the Tauernkamm to the Rauchkopfhütte ca. 1,850 m – towards the Tauerkarleiten Alm ca. 1,600 m (hut is open) – to the Stubhöhe ca. 1,700 m – to the Oberzauch Alm (huts are open) 1,600 m – back to Zauchensee 1,350 m.
From Zauchensee 1,350 m with the Gamskogelbahn to the GAmskogelhütte (hut is open) 1,900 m – to the Tagweidegg to the Rosskopf ca. 1,900 m – from there towards Altenmarkt – on the same altitude to the Hinterkogel and Vorderkogel (a fantastic high altitude trail) – ascent to the Lackenkogel ca. 2,200 m – towards the Lackenalmen (huts open) – to the Sattelbauer (mountain restaurant is open) – over the Winterbauer (panorama restaurant) down to Altenmarkt – from there over the idyllic, old Zauchenseestraße back to Zauchensee (10 km) or via bus to Zauchensee.
Total trail length: 7 m. Route: Oberzauchensee (ca. 1,600 m) – Steinfeldspitze (2,344 m) – Großer Bärenstaffl (ca. 2,135 m) – Stubhöhe – Oberzauchensee Alm (1,556 m). Requirements: mountain tour with some wire ropes, surefootedness is required, beautiful panorama mountain; we only came upon the marked trail shortly below the Schwarzkopf which leads to the Gamskogelhütte and then to the Steinfeldspitze. We marched cross-country (partly on cattle tracks) to the summit.
The transgression of the Steinfeldspitze remains reserved to the skilled hikers with alpine experience and is a pleasure for those who are surefooted and free from giddiness. The summit on the east side is a little bit easier, the Große Bärenstaffl (ca. 2,140 m). In the opposite direction the tour is considered easier and can be shortened via the Gamskogelbahn cable car, it is nevertheless a hard tour!
